Estimating reliable mortality indicators for the different regions of Algeria is considered methodologically challenging due to the lack of data. No previous research was devoted to regional mortality estimation and projection in Algeria. The aim of this paper is to estimate and forecast life tables for men and women in the seven sanitary Algerian regions based on the latest Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey data (MICS, Wave VI, 2018-2019) combined with the national civil registration-based life tables. The initial estimates were adjusted using an indirect, standardised approach. The regional-to-national standardised mortality ratios by sex and region were utilised for projecting the regional mortality surface based on national projections, assuming that these ratios remain constant after the period 2018–2019. Our findings indicate the existence of mortality inequalities in favour of women, who recorded lower mortality rates over the period 2018-2070 compared to men.
