Rapid urbanization that is not well managed poses great challenges to the quality of the physical environment especially in cities of Sub-Saharan Africa. The study would examine rapid urbanization and environmental poverty (inadequate social facilities, poor housing conditions and pollution) in residential area of Agbowo community, Nigeria. The concept of urban slum and theory of urban regeneration would provide the framework. Primary and secondary data would be sourced using structured questionnaires and published materials. Systematic random sampling techniques would be used in selecting residential buildings in the study area. Pearson Product Moment Correlation would be used to show a significant mean relationship that exists between urbanization and social facilities, housing conditions and environmental pollution. Regression analysis would be used to reveal the findings of the study if: urbanization poses challenges to social facilities; environmental pollution and housing conditions while appropriate recommendations on enhanced physical environmental quality would be made.
