The Demographic Aspects of Women with Disabilities and Access to Health Care Facilities in South Africa

Background. This study aims to examine the relationship between the demographic aspects of women with disabilities (WWD) and the mode of transportation they utilize when accessing healthcare facilities in South Africa. The study seeks to identify the factors that contribute to transport related barriers when accessing healthcare facilities. Data source and methods: This study makes use of the data of the 2013 and 2018 General Household Surveys (GHS) respectively. SPSS software version 29 and Microsoft Excel were used to analyse the data using Chi-square test and multinomial logistic regression analysis. Results: The study indicated that population group, level of education, and employment, and area of residence of WWD play a crucial role in the mode of transportation utilized to access healthcare facilities in South Africa. Women with disability to be considered in efforts to ensure adequate healthcare access.
